Retained Life Estate

Retained life estate

Donate your personal home or farm to Indiana University and continue to live there for the rest of your life.

How a gift of retained life estate can benefit you:

  • You can make an impactful gift now that will result in a significant tax deduction at the same time.
  • You’ll simplify your estate and reduce administration expenses.
  • You’ll live in your home for as long as you choose and continue to pay the same taxes, insurance, and maintenance costs.
  • After your lifetime—or the lifetime of a loved one—IU will sell the property and channel the proceeds to support your chosen IU program.

Our wish was to make the estate process easier on our daughters long-term, while still retaining a current life estate. We are comforted knowing the IU Foundation will work with our estate representatives to ensure the personal property in our home finds its way to those designated in our estate plan and that the remainder will be maximized for the academic initiatives we support at IU.
