How it works

Donation

A generous donor gives their land, real estate, or personal property to the IU Foundation.

Sale

The IU Foundation sells the land, real estate, or personal property.

Support

Proceeds from the sale are invested back into IU, honoring the donor’s gift agreement.

All of our properties have been donated with a specific purpose in mind

Spelled out in gift agreements between our generous donors and the IU Foundation, proceeds made on the sale of our properties go back to the university to support a fund of the donor’s choice.

Whether that’s a scholarship for a first-generation college student or a center dedicated to the success of women in technology, you can be sure your money is going to a good place.

Grow student success

More than half of IU students rely on scholarships to pay for college, and many of our donors choose to fund programs that offer the educational access, financial support, and career development opportunities that help those students thrive.

Create global leaders

By funding global academic programs and sending curious students abroad, our donors help us prepare future leaders with the global perspectives, insights, and understanding that are crucial to problem solving in the 21st century.

Fund ideas and innovation

Our faculty and students are fighting cybercrime, finding clean sources of renewable energy, and helping people with disabilities navigate the internet. With our donors’ support, we can continue funding faculty chairs and professorships, supporting new research initiatives, and building research infrastructure at IU—so that our faculty and students can continue doing amazing work.

Help develop a healthier state, nation, and world

Our research in cancer, cardiovascular disease, mental illness, and other debilitating conditions is adding years to patients’ lives and advancing public health. With donors’ help, we can continue to save lives, alleviate pain, and create a healthier future for our state, nation, and world.
